Material: Blade. Handle A and D shall be chromium over nickel plated brass and shall be hollow so as to provide lightness and thereby facilitate tactile sensibility. Brass shall conform to class 8, copper alloy number 260 or 330, as specified in ASTM Designation B135 for chemical composition only. Handle B shall be fabricated of type 416 or 410 stainless steel in accordance with ASTM Designation F899 or type 430F stainless steel in accordance with ASTM Designation A473 for composition. Handle C shall be fabricated of type 303 stainless steel as specified in ASTM Designation F899 for composition. Composition shall be tested as specified herein.
Hardness. After proper stress relieving, the Rockwell hardness of the operative ends shall be C52 to C56 for type 440A, C54 to C58 for type 440B, and C56 to C60 for type 440C. Handle and shanks shall be of proper temper and shall have a hardness suitable for the purpose intended. Hardness shall be determine in accordance with ASTM Designation E18 (Rockwell) or E92 (Vickers or Diamond Pyramid).
Design and dimension. The curettes shall be double-ended and furnished in the applicable style and number specified. The curettes shall be suitable for use as previously specified. The curettes shall be furnished with handle and shank design of either Handle A, B, C or D as specified. The style, design and dimensions of the curettes shall conform to applicable Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawings as shown below for the applicable styles.
The curette shall be packaged in a close fitting container and packaged to prevent damage to the operative end.
