COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CURETTES, PERIODONTAL, DOUBLE-ENDED
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as replacement for Military Specification MIL-C-42000 and Interim Amendment 1 (DM) which are cancelled.
This commercial item description covers double-ended periodontal curettes suitable for use in subgingival curettage and the scaling of tooth and root surfaces.
Salient Characteristics:
Classification. The double-ended curettes shall be of the following styles:
Style 1 – Crane-Kaplan No. CK-6 Curette.
Style 2 – Prichard, No. PR1 and PR2.
Style 3 – Sugarman, No. 5s and 6s.
Style 4 – Younger-Good, No. 7 and 8.
Style 5 – Kirkland, No. 4K and 5K.
Bid sample. Twelve bid samples which are
representative of the curettes to be supplied shall be furnished complete with
protocols and satisfactory report of tests performed in accordance with the
specification to the Defense Personnel Support Center for evaluation by the
Military Medical Services.
When tested by the periodontists under conditions of normal usage, the curettes
shall be suitable for use as follows:
Crane-Kaplan No. CK-6 Curette. The Crane-Kaplan, No. CK-6 curette, (Style 1), shall be suitable for use in removal of granulomatous tissue during periodontal surgical procedures. The curette shall be well balanced and blades finished to produce sharp cutting edges which shall be effective for tooth scaling and subgingival curettage of tooth and root surfaces with a mucoperiosteal flap approach.
