* A sufficient quantity of each lot of metal used in the construction of the forceps may be selected for chemical analysis provided lot identity has been maintained and can be demonstrated to the Government.
Tests. Tests shall be conducted to determine compliance with specification requirements. Where feasible, the same sample shall be used for the determination of two or more test characteristics.
Chemical analysis. In the absence of certificates of quality, chemical analysis of the individual components of the forceps shall be determined in accordance with method 111 of FED-STD-151.
Dimensions. Dimensions shall be measured using an optical comparator, shadowgraph, or other suitable device capable of measuring the forceps dimensions with the accuracy specified in the drawing.
Clamping test. With the forceps rigidly supported in a suitable fixture, apply a force to the operative point opposing the forceps spring action and perpendicular to the forceps centerline. The force required to obtain impending motion in both the fully closed and fully open positions, when measured with a spring scale of suitable sensitivity, shall be as previously specified.
