COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
FORCEPS, RUBBER DAM CLAMP, DENTAL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-F-36458B which is cancelled.
This commercial item description covers a forceps for placing and removing rubber dam clamps on teeth.
Salient Characteristics:
Materials. The body and grip of the forceps shall be fabricated from class 4, type 420 stainless steel, except as an alternate the grip shall be fabricated from class 3, type 304 stainless steel. The rivet, yoke and spring shall be fabricated from austenitic stainless steel. Stainless steel shall conform to ASTM designation F 899 for composition. Composition shall be tested as specified herein.
Hardness. After proper stress relieving, type 420 steel shall have a Rockwell hardness of C48-C52. The spring shall be hardened to a spring temper. Hardness shall be determined in accordance with ASTM designation E 18 (Rockwell) or E 92 (Vickers).
Design and dimensions. The dental forceps shall be suitable for placing and removing rubber dam clamps on teeth. The forceps shall consist of a body with grip, a rivet, and a yoke and spring, and shall conform to Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 24016 for design and dimensions.
Corrosion resistance. The forceps shall meet the corrosion resistant requirements and tests as specified in ASTM designation F 1089.
