COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CURETTES, PERIODONTAL (McCall)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-C-36507C which is cancelled.
This commercial item description covers double-ended periodontal dental curettes of McCall design.
Salient characteristics:
The double-ended periodontal dental curettes of McCall design shall be as specified below:
McCall No. 13s and 14s
McCall No. 17s and 18s
Material.
Operative ends. The operative ends shall be Class 4, Type 440A, 440B, 440C stainless steel.
Handles. Handle A shall be fabricated of Class 4, Type 416 martensitic stainless steel or Class 6, Type 430F ferritic stainless steel as specified in ASTM Designation F899 for composition only. Handle C shall be fabricated of Class 3, Type 303 austenitic stainless steel as specified in ASTM Designation F899 for composition only. Handle B and D shall be chromium over nickel plated brass. Brass shall conform to copper alloy No. 260 or 330 as specified in ASTM Designation B135 for composition only.
Hardness. After proper stress relieving, the Rockwell hardness of the operative ends shall be C52 to C56 for Type 440A, C54 to C58 for Type 440B, and C56 to C60 for Type 440C in accordance with ASTM Designation E18 (Rockwell) or E92 (Vickers) and E140. Handles and shanks shall be properly tempered and shall have a hardness suitable for the purpose intended.
Design and dimensions. The curettes shall be double-ended McCall design curettes. The curettes shall be furnished as specified herein. The curettes shall be suitable for use in
