Identification marking. The trimmers shall be permanently and legibly marked on the smooth face of the handle. Each trimmer shall be marked with the applicable instrument number and Black’s formula as specified in Table I. trimmers of foreign manufacture shall bear the name of the country of origin. The word “stainless” shall also be marked on instruments of foreign manufacture. As an alternate, to the word “stainless”, the use of a registered trade name identifying the steel as stainless shall be acceptable, provided prior approval is received from the cognizant contracting officer. The use of a score line on the handle of the instrument to distinguish the left operative end from the right operative end is optional.
Workmanship. The operative end, shank and handle of the trimmers shall be free from defects such as coarse grind marks, cracks, or burrs, which may detract from their appearance or impair their serviceability, proper functioning or intended use.
Unit. Each (EA). One trimmer, as specified, constitutes one unit.
Unit packaging. Each trimmer shall be wrapped in neutral tissue paper or other suitable non-corrosive material. the cutting edge shall be protected in such a manner so as to prevent damage during shipping and handling. As an alternate, each trimmer may be packaged in a rigid plastic tube having a metal or plastic screw cap or plastic plug-type closure. The trimmer shall be immobilized within the container and the operative end protected with rock or other suitable material.
Quality Assurance Provisions.
Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contact or purchase order, the contractor may use his own or any facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements
