Examination. The plugger shall be examined to determine compliance with specification requirements. Examination shall be conducted in accordance as specified herein. The plugger shall be examined for defects, including but not limited to, those listed below.
Defects.
Style and design not as specified.
Instrument not constructed as specified.
Operative end and shank finish not as specified.
Operative end not free from grind marks, gouges, cracks, burrs, feathers and other imperfections.
Millimeter markings not legible, sharply defined lines.
Plugging operative end not uniformly and smoothly tapered.
Operative end dimensions not as specified.
Handle finish not as specified.
Instrument not permanently and legibly marked with the name or trademark of the contractor.
Instrument identification not properly located.
Handle and shank dimensions not as specified.
Instrument not free from dirt, oil, compound or foreign matter.
Handle serrations, either not uniform or not complete.
Handle not straight.
Tests. Tests shall be conducted to determine compliance with the requirements of this specifications.
Hardness. Hardness shall be determined in accordance with ASTM Designation E18 (Rockwell) or E92 (Vickers or Diamond Pyramid).
Corrosion test. The copper sulfate test shall be conducted in accordance with ASTM F1089.
Boil test. The boil test shall be conducted in accordance with ASTM F1089.
