WAX, DENTAL, Bite, Metal Impregnated
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This commercial item description covers dental bite wax suitable for use in occlusal registration of teeth in fabricated of prosthetic restorations.
Salient characteristics:
Material. The wax shall be a aluminum impregnated dental bite wax. The wax shall be composed of beeswax, paraffin wax, rosin, and aluminum powder, and may contain other ingredients such as zinc oxide, castor oil, and cornstarch. The purity of the formulation shall be such as to assure safe use in the oral cavity. The wax shall be in sheets that can be manually worked into a plastic mass which can be used for occlusal registration of teeth in fabrication of prosthetic restorations. The metal shall be uniformly distributed throughout the wax. The color of the wax shall be green. The net weight of wax in the package shall be a minimum of 16.0 ounces.
Dimensions. The wax shall be supplied in smoothly rolled rectangular sheets, 6 ± 1/8 inches long, 3 ± 1/8 inches wide, and 5/64 ± 1/64 inch thick.
Performance. The wax shall soften readily with heat and shall remain plastic and fully workable at 110°F to 120°F when tested as specified below. Upon chilling with cold water at 40°F to 50°F the wax shall stiffen so that it can easily be removed from the mouth or model. The wax shall produce an accurate occlusal registration when used in accordance with the instructions.
Instructions. Adequate and accurate instructions for use of the wax shall accompany each unit.
Marking. The date of manufacture and lot or control number shall be marked on the unit package (box). The unit package shall bear the legend: “Store in a cool place - 50° to 86°F (15° to 30°C)”.
