The type II burnisher shall be double-ended, one or three-piece construction, consisting of two operative ends and a handle. The operative ends shall be permanently secured to the handle.
The No. 27 burnisher shall be a small round burnisher with a spherical-shaped working end.
The No. GF-33 burnisher shall be of the spratley design with the operative end tapering to a point at the tip and the sides tapering to a sharp edge.
The No. 15 or “J” burnisher shall have a conical pointed tip at one end and a blunt rounded tip and the other end.
The No. 2-30 burnisher shall have a beavertail shape at one end and an ovoid shape at the other end.
The No. 26-27 burnisher shall have a large ball shape at one end and a small ball shape at the other end.
The style, design and dimensions of the burnishers shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 20088, No. 24418 and No. 24151 for the applicable type.
The burnishers shall be packaged in a container designed to prevent damage during shipping or handling.
Finish. The operative ends shall have a mirror or bright finish. The handle shall have a mirror or bright finish except for the serrated or knurled portion.
Corrosion resistance. The burnisher shall show no evidence of corrosion or plating of copper when tested in accordance with ASTM Designation F1089.
Identification marking. The burnishers shall be permanently and legibly marked with the name or registered trademark of the contractor, the instrument number and the word “stainless”. Instruments of foreign manufacture shall bear the name of the country of origin.
Workmanship. The burnishers shall be free from defects which detract from their appearance or impair their serviceability.
Unit. Each (EA). One burnisher of the type and dimensions specified, constitutes one unit.
