Plastic used for the mirror frame and handle shall be acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) cellulose acetate, or polystyrene. The plastics shall have a minimum average Izod impact strength at 23° Centigrade of 1.5 foot-pounds per inch of notch when tested in accordance with ASTM D256 and a minimum average tensile of 4000 pounds per square inch when tested in accordance with ASTM D638.
The overall length of the mirror shall be 6 ± 1/2 inch. The plane of the mirror head (face) shall be 30 degrees ± 10 degrees to the major plane of the handle. The cross section of the handle shall be suitable for finger manipulation. The cross section of the neck shall be sufficient to maintain mirror integrity. The proximal end of the handle shall have a suitable hole or slot or both. The mirror glass and coatings shall be a minimum of 0.050 inches to a maximum of 0.075 inches in thickness. The mirror head shall have a thickness of 0.10 to 0.15 inch. The diameter of the exposed mirror face shall be 5/8 to 1 inch.
Workmanship. The mirror shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Package (PG). One package containing seventy-two mirrors, as specified constitutes one unit.
Quality Assurance Provisions.
Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contact or purchase order, the contractor may use his own or any facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements.
Records. Records of examinations and tests performed by or for the contractor shall be maintained by the contractor and made available to the Government upon the Government’s request, at any time, or from time to time, during the performance of the contract and for a period of three years after delivery of the supplies to which such records relate.
