COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
FACE-BOW, ARTICULATOR, DENTAL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as a replacement for Federal Specification GG-A-664 which is cancelled.
This Commercial Item Description covers a lightweight dental articulator face-bow.
Salient Characteristics:
Material. The face-bow shall be fabricated from aluminum.
Style and design. Shall be a lightweight face-bow suitable for registering and transferring anatomical relationships from a patient to the adjustable articulator. Shall be designed to incorporate calibrated, adjustable condylar rods to permit symmetrical placement of the face-bow on the face of a patient in relationship to the center of the mandibular condyle, heads. The face-bow shall be supplied with a bitefork, orbital pointer, 2 condylar ros, orbital point clamp, bitefork clamp and bow.
The orbital pointer clamp shall be adjustable and shall be designed to permit locking of the orbital pointer in relationship to the infraorbital notch of the patient. The adjustable bitefork clamp shall permit locking of the bitefork in relationship to the maxillary arch of the patient. The bitefork clamp shall have an elevating screw designed to adjust the orbital pointer to the level of the orbital indicator of the articulator and to support the forward portion of the face-bow during mounting of the maxillary cast to the articulator. The bitefork shall be designed for use in creating a positive imprint in softened wax, when the prongs are covered with wax and are interposed between the occlusal rims of the mouth of the patient.
The style, design and dimensions of the face-bow shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 24135.
Finish. All screws used to make manual adjustments to the face-bow shall be knurled. The rest of the face-bow shall have a smooth finish.
