The No. 18 awl shall be designed for use in passing circum-mandibular wires. The style, design and dimensions of the No. 18 awl shall be in accordance with DPSC Drawing No. 22429.
The No. 19 awl shall be designed for use in passing circum-zygomatic wires. The style, design and dimensions of the No. 19 awl shall be in accordance with DPSC Drawing No. 22430.
Finish. The awl shall have a satin or mirror finish.
Passivation. The awl shall be properly passivated.
Marking. The awl shall be marked with the name or registered trademark of the manufacturer, the awl number, and the word “stainless”. If the awl is of foreign manufacture, the instrument shall bear the name of the country of manufacture.
Corrosion resistance. The awl shall show no signs of corrosion when tested in accordance with the copper sulfate and boil test requirements of ASTM F1089.
Workmanship. The awl shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Each (EA). One awl of the number specified, constitutes one unit.
Unit package. The awl shall be package in a container designed to prevent damage during shipment or storage.
Quality Assurance Provisions.
Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contact or purchase order, the contractor may use his own or any facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements.
