COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PUMP, DENTAL (Mouthrinse)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This Commercial Item Description covers a dental mouthrinse pump.
Salient characteristics:
General. The pump shall be capable of screwing onto a dental mouthrinse container which is in accordance with Commercial Item Description A-A-53461. The pump when screwed onto the container shall form a manually operated dispenser capable of dispensing sodium fluoride (NaF) solution. The pump shall be manually operated. The pump with one full stroke shall be capable of ejecting 10 ± 1 milliliter (ml) of .02% NaF solution.
Design and dimensions. The pump shall consist of a delivery tube with corrosion resistant steel fitments, a standard 38 mm screw cap, auxiliary cap and culminating in a high impact molded plastic spout. The delivery tube shall be made of a suitable plastic, except for fitments. The fitments (spring and check-valve assembly) shall be fabricated of 18-8 corrosion resistant steel. The fitments shall show no sign of corrosion when tested in accordance with ASTM F1089. The pickup end of the delivery tube shall be diagonally cut to assist in uptake. The tube shall not buckle in the container restricting the flow of the NaF solution. The uptake tip shall extend to within 2 cm of the bottom of the container to minimize waste. The standard 38 mm screw cap shall securely attached the pump to the container without leakage. The opening of the spout shall extend outward 7.5-10.5 cm from the center axis of the pump with the ejection tip angled downward to facilitate cup filling. All parts of the pump shall be inert to NaF solutions. There shall be no leakage in the pump or the entire pump-container system.
