LINER, FLASK, DENTAL CASTING MACHINE (Non-Water Absorbing)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a liner for a casting machine flask.
Salient characteristics:
The liner shall be a non-water absorbing refractory material suitable for lining the flask used in fabricating precious dental castings. The liner shall adapt readily to the flask. One layer of liner shall allow for uniform expansion of commercial investments. The liner shall be a substitute for asbestos but shall be asbestos free.
Material. The liner shall be a ceramic fiber paper manufactured from kaolin. The liner shall be composed essentially of alumina (Al2O3) and silica (SiO2) and a suitable binder such as neoprene (synthetic rubber). The liner may also contain small amounts of ferric oxide (Fe2O3), titanium oxide (TiO2), magnesium oxide (MgO), calcium oxide (CaO), alkalies (as Na2O), boron oxide (B2O3). The material shall be free of impurities that would affect the end result of the casting.
Physical properties. The liner shall be able to withstand continuous exposure to temperatures up to 2300 degrees F. (1260 degrees C.). The liner shall have the following dimensions:
Length – 100 feet (30.48 meters) ± 1 foot
Width – 1-1/4 inches (3.18cm) ± 1/8 inch
Thickness – 0.040 inches (0.10cm) ± 0.010 inch
The liner shall be uniform in thickness. The liner shall be furnished in one continuous length and easily cut with scissors. Adequate and accurate instructions for use shall be furnished with each roll.
Workmanship. The liner shall be free of dirt, oil, and other impurities or defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
