COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CALIPER, WAX THICKNESS MEASURING, DENTAL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a wax thickness measuring caliper suitable for use in meaning wall thickness of crowns, plastic, baseplates and other semi-rigid dental materials.
Salient characteristics:
The wax thickness measuring caliper shall be suitable for determining the thickness of wax crowns, plastic, baseplates and other semi-rigid dental material. The caliper shall essentially be of five piece construction: operative ends (jaws) with a handle, welded to the end of a metric scale, a sliding handle member with a securely attached knob which moves across the metric scale, and a rivet.
The operative ends (jaws) shall be rounded out, and shall be sufficiently blunt and loosely sprung so as to be suitable for use in measuring semi-rigid dental materials. The measuring beaks shall be configured (like outside calipers) so as to be able to make measurements at any point on a dental wax crown or other semi-rigid materials. The operative ends shall be capable of touching each other at the tips.
The handle members shall have serrations (nominal 35 teeth) along the outside long edges.
The metric scale shall have a range of 0-10 mm capacity legibly and permanently numbered every 0.10 mm.
Overall length (from mid-line of calipers) is 4 ± 1/16 inches; thickness of jaws shall be 1.50 ± 0.10 mm; thickness of handle members shall be 1.50 ± 0.10 mm; thickness of metric scale shall be 1.50 ± 0.10 mm.
Material. The caliper shall be fabricated of stainless steel or noncorrosive nickel silver.
Workmanship. The caliper shall be free from defects which detracts from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
