WAX, DENTAL (Utility)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Interim federal Specification U-W-00156Aa (DSA-DM).
This commercial item description covers dental utility wax suitable for use in dental prosthetic procedures.
Salient characteristics:
The utility wax shall be suitable for use in dental prosthetic procedures such as building up impression trays, post damming, and sealing and boxing of an impression.
The wax shall be furnished in packages having a minimum of 60 ropes and weighing a minimum of 300 grams per package. The ropes shall be 3/16 inch nominal in diameter and shall be a minimum of 10-3/4 inches long. Layers of wax shall be adequately separated to insure against blocking. The wax shall be dark red in color, and shall be furnished in packages containing a minimum weight of 300 grams. The melting point of the wax (ADA method) shall be no less than 68.0 degrees Centigrade (oC). The flow of the wax (ADA method) shall be no less than 65.0 percent and no more than 86.0 percent at 37.5 ± 1.0oC. The wax shall be pliable at a temperature of 70.0o to 75.0oF and shall have sufficient adhesive qualities for building-up purposes.
The utility wax shall be given a practical performance test to determine pliability, tackiness, and adhesiveness property requirements.
Material. Utility wax shall be a uniform mixture of waxes and other ingredients, such as resins, combined in proportions that will result in a material possessing the physical properties specified herein.
Workmanship. The utility wax shall be clean and free from defects which detract from their appearance or impair their serviceability.
Unit. Package (PG). One package as described above, constitutes one unit of issue.
Quality Assurance Provisions.
Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection, examination, and test requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor may use his own or any other facilities suitable for the
