COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
DISPENSER, DENTAL ACRYLIC RESIN

This commercial item description covers dental acrylic resin liquid and powder dispensers.
Salient characteristics:
The dispenser shall be type I, dental acrylic resin liquid, or type II, dental acrylic resin powder dispenser as specified in the procurement document for the applicable National Stock Number and Item Identification.
The flexible plastic dispenser shall be suitable for use in the precise application of methyl methacrylate monomer (type I, liquid dispenser) and polymer (type II, powder dispenser) for repair of denture prosthetics. Both the liquid and the powder dispenser shall consist of a bottle, a screw cap, delivery tubing, and an AISI 304 stainless steel flow tube. The liquid dispenser shall also include an AISI 308L stainless steel probing rod or stylus. The pick up end of the delivery tube shall be diagonally cut to assist in the transfer of the monomer or polymer to the tube. The tapered end of the delivery tube shall have a 17 gauge stainless steel flow tube. The type I dispenser shall have a securely held stylus (0.035 ± 0.002 inch in diameter) for use as a stirring rod. The delivery tube shall form an angle of 60o ± 10o with respect to the central axis of the bottle. The interior of the screw cap shall be threaded properly mate with the threads on the neck of the bottle. All screw caps and bottles shall be interchangeable with each other. The completely assembled dispenser shall rest evenly on a smooth, level surface. The bottle shall have a 2-ounce capacity and a ½ ± 1/16 inch neck opening. The rod shall provide for touch contact of the monomer at the selected site, and shall serve as a stirring rod during the mixing of the monomer and polymer. The monomer shall be discharged at the end of the flow tube, and shall flow to the end of the probing rod, where it shall be dispensed as individual drops. There shall be no leakage in the entire system.
Material. The bottle, screw cap, and delivery tubing shall be fabricated from flexible polyethylene or polypropylene. The polyethylene of polypropylene shall have a natural color with no color additives. The flow tube and the probing rod shall be fabricated from austenitic, corrosion-resisting steel.
Workmanship. The dispenser shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Each (EA). One dispenser of the type specified, constitutes one unit.
