Each member shall be fabricated of a chromium or nickel plated carbon steel. The spring section of the forceps shall have a Rockwell hardness of C15 to C25 under 150 kgf load or a Vickers hardness of 211 to 266 (see ASTM Designation E 140). The operative end of the forceps shall be coated with a fused, tough, resilient, abrasive-resistant plastistol and shall be of such thickness and durability to resist attack of corrosive pickling solutions, such as aqua regia and a 20% sodium hydroxide solution. The forceps shall not cause electrochemical corrosion when used to remove gold castings from pickling solutions. The forceps shall have an overall length of 6-3/4 ± 3/8 inch, with the plastisol coating covering 2-1/2 ± ¼ inch from the tip. The width of the handle shall have a minimum convexity of 11/32 inch and the length of the beak (metal tip radial center of bend) shall be 5/8 ± 3/16 inch.
