CLAY, MODELING (Dental)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers modeling clay suitable for use in dental laboratory procedures.
Salient characteristics:
The modeling clay shall be suitable for use in dental laboratory procedures such as model block out and sealing duplicating flasks. The modeling clay shall be suitable for use in forming the land ares on an impression prior to the boxing procedure.
Material. The modeling clay shall consist essentially of kaolin, calcium hydroxide and calcium carbonate incorporated in an oil-base consisting of microcrystal wax, paraffin, petrolatum and color additives. Color of clay shall be optional. The clay shall be of a homogenous consistency free of lumps, grit or other impurities which may impair its use. The clay shall contain no ingredients harmful to the hands. The clay shall be free from unpleasant or irritating odors.
Working properties. The clay shall be sufficiently plastic to be easily hand molded at room temperature so as to produce a dry smooth surface capable of retaining its shape for a minimum of 24 hours without toughening, hardening, drying out, crusting or cracking. The clay shall be capable of an exposure of ten minutes to temperature up to 200o Fahrenheit without change in shape or formation of gas.
Workmanship. The modeling clay shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Each (EA). One two-pound package of modeling clay, as specified, constitutes one unit.
Quality Assurance Provisions.
Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor may use his own or any facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements.
