COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PROTECTOR, DENTURE MODEL, Foamed Plastic, Three-piece
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description in preference to Military Specification MIL-P-37500.
This commercial item description covers a foamed plastic protector suitable for the receipt and protection of dental models and appliances.
Salient characteristics:
The protector shall be of three-piece construction, a top piece, bottom piece and a center-piece, all separate and preformed. The center piece shall be preformed into the shape of a rectangular block having two rectangular shaped holes through the entire thickness. Style, design and dimensions of the protector shall be as shown in figure 1. The protector shall be fabricated from high quality polyurethane foam. The protector shall be a device suitable for repeated use in protecting dental models and appliances during shipment of these models and appliances between laboratories. The protector shall be free from any objectionable odor.
The protector shall have a maximum constant deflection compression set of 10 percent, an indentation load deflection of 28 to 35 pounds, a density of 1.20 ± 0.05 pounds per cubic foot, a tensile strength 10.0 pounds per square inch, a minimum elongation of 150 percent and a minimum resilience of 40 percent. All tests shall be performed in accordance with the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Designation D3574, Standard Methods of Testing Flexible Cellular Materials – Slab, bonded and Molded Urethane Foams. The issue of the ASTM standard in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with stated requirements.
Workmanship. Protector shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Package (PG). One package containing one hundred (100) three-piece protectors, as specified, constitutes one unit.
