GAGE, ENDODONTIC

This commercial item description covers a measuring gage.
Salient characteristics:
The measuring gage shall be suitable for establishing and presetting the operating limit of endodontic instruments. The gage shall be of two-piece construction: a fixed piece and a sliding piece with a thumb screw to provide a positive locking mechanism along the fixed piece. The two pieces and screw shall be fabricated of austenitic stainless steel. The gage shall have two scales with a range of 0-35 mm, legibly and permanently numbered every 5 mm, with 1 mm markings, 1/16 inch high, nominal. The scales shall be placed on the same edge of the fixed piece and shall start at zero, beginning at each end. Each piece shall have a perpendicular end tab. The tab on fixed piece shall have a “Y” notch for accurately positioning an instrument to preset its operating limit. Two holes shall be tapped on the centerline of fixed piece to accommodate round head, slotted, machine screws with appropriate size washers. One hole shall be tapped on centerline of slide for thumb screw.
The overall length shall be 4 ± 1/16 inches and 23/32 ± 1/32 inch wide, with a hole tapped 1-15/32 ± 1/32 inch from free end and a second hole ¾ inch from the first hole. The tapped hole on slide shall be 27/32 ±1/32 inch from free end.
The three tapped holes shall be #3-48 UNC-28. The “V” notch shall be 3.8 ± 1.32 inch deep.
The gage, except two machine screws and washers, shall comply with the boil test of the latest issue in effect on ANSI/ADA Specification No. 29.
Workmanship. Gage shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Each (EA). One gage, as specified, constitutes one unit.

Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contract or
