COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SEPARATOR, TEETH, DENTAL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This commercial item description covers a teeth separator used for separating the contact of proximal teeth.
Salient Characteristics:
Design and construction. The teeth separator shall consist of a flat, circular disk fitted with a tab which overlaps a portion of the disk edge. the disk shall be 3/4 ± 1/16 inch in diameter and 0.0055 ± 0.0005 inch in thickness so as to separate the contact of proximal teeth a distance of 0.0055 0.0005 inch. The disk shall be constructed of blue finish spring steel to render the disk corrosion resistant and sufficiently hard to resist permanent deformation in use. The tab shall be pressed onto the disk or securely fastened by another suitable method so as not to dislodge in the patient’s mouth. The tab shall be constructed of aluminum or other suitable material.
Corrosion resistance. The teeth separator shall show no signs of corrosion when tested as follows: The teeth separator shall be cleaned in accordance with the instructions supplied by the manufacturer. The teeth separator shall then be autoclaved at 270° ± 5°F and 27 ± 1 pounds per square inch pressure for a minimum of 20 minutes. After the teeth separator is removed from the autoclave, the entire surface area shall be examined for evidence of corrosion.
Unit. Package (PG). One package containing six separators, as specified, constitutes one unit.
