MANDREL, DENTAL HANDPIECE, No. X350

This commercial item description covers a No. X350, dental handpiece mandreil for holding abrasive wheels and disks.
Classifications.
Class AF. Friction grip handpiece.
Class S. Straight handpiece.
Salient characteristics:
The mandrel shall be a No. X350 thin head type mandrel suitable for securely holding abrasive disks in dental polishing and grinding procedures.
The mandrel shall be fabricated from Class 3, austenitic, or Class 4, martensitic, stainless steel in conformance with Federal Specification GG-I-526. Martensitic and austenitic steel mandrels shall show no corrosion, when subjected to the boil test of Federal Specification GG-I-526. Martensitic steel mandrel shall also pass the copper sulfate test of Federal Specification GG-I-526. Mandrel shall have a smooth, bright polished finish, without defects such as cracks or burs.
The mandrel shall consist of a one-piece threaded mandrel body, and a matching threaded screw with a slotted head. The mandrel shall be furnished in the applicable class, as specified. Class AL mandrel shall be suitable for use in latch type angle dental handpieces. Class S mandrel shall be suitable for use in straight dental handpieces. Mandrel shall be in accordance with Figure 1.
The total indicated runout of the mandrel shall be no greater than 0.002 inch, for both Class AF mandrel and no greater than 0.003 inch for Class S mandrel.
