COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SPECTACLES, PROTECTIVE, DENTAL PATIENT, CLEAR LENSES
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This commercial item description covers protective spectacles used to protect the patient’s eyes.
Salient characteristics:
The spectacles shall be suitable for the protection of the eyes on dental patient’s during dental procedures. The spectacles shall be impact resistant material with curved lenses and frames which closely follow facial contours and shall feature side shields and supraorbital flanges to provide close adaption to the face, to provide maximum protection without interfering in the accomplishment of dental procedures. The spectacles shall consist of polycarbonate front, right and left temples, and lenses. The front temples shall be held together by plastic pins fabricated into the temples and interfaced to the front securely, allowing opening and closing of the temples without exerting a great force on the spectacles. The spectacles shall be universal in size and fit. The overall dimensions of the spectacles shall be as follows: front width – 6 ± 1/4 inches, front height – 2-1/4 ± 1/4 inches, and temple length – 5-7/8 ± ¼ inches. The lenses shall be .075 inch, plus or minus .005 inch thick. The lenses shall be clear and colorless. The spectacles shall be cold sterilizable in glutaraldehyde type solutions. The spectacles shall be durable.
Workmanship. Spectacle shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Package (PG). One package containing 36 spectacles, as specified, constitutes one unit.
