COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
MALLET, ORAL SURGERY (Gardner, Hand Type)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a dental mallet suitable for use in oral surgical procedures.
Salient characteristics:
Material. The mallet shall be fabricated of class 6, type 430F ferritic stainless steel, as specified in ASTM F 899.
Hardness. The Rockwell hardness of the mallet shall be C25 to C30, tested as specified in ASTM E18 (Rockwell).
Style, design, and dimensions. The mallet shall be a Gardner type dental mallet suitable for use in oral surgical procedure. Shall be of two-piece construction with the head and handle permanently joined. The handle shall have two finger grip bands, longitudinally serrated, and raised above the surface of the shank. The weight of the mallet shall be 9.5 ± 0.5 ounces. The dimensions of the mallet shall conform to figure 1.
Finish. The mallet shall have a bright or matte finish.
Corrosion resistance. The mallet shall show no evidence of corrosion, after the boil test of GG-I-526.
Workmanship. The mallet shall be free from burrs and sharp edges or other defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Each (EA). One mallet, as specified, constitutes one unit.
