COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
DISK, ABRASIVE (Silicon Carbide)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in reference to Interim Federal Specification GG-D-00426B (DSA-DM).
This commercial item description covers silicon carbide abrasive disks suitable for rapid cutting of dental metallic alloys and porcelains. The abrasive disks shall be furnished in the following classes, as specified:
Class A – Double safe-side, edge cutting
Class B – One safe-side, cutting
Class C – Double-side, cutting
Salient characteristics:
Shall be unmounted, silicon carbide, abrasive disk suitable for rapid cutting of dental metallic alloys and porcelains. The abrasive disk shall be especially suitable for the sectioning of fixed partial dentures without undue breakage and without porcelain contamination.
The abrasive disk shall be compatible and suitable for use with a screw type mandrel.
The disk shall have a suitable vulcanized binder of synthetic rubber.
The diameter of all disks shall be 7/8 ± 1/64 inch (22.4 ± .4 mm). Class A shall be plain, double-safe side, edge cutting. The grit number shall be 110 to 130. Class B shall be plain, one safe side, with the other side of the disk containing the abrasive. Class C shall be plain, double-side abrasive. The grit number of Class B and C shall be 90 to 100. Class B and C shall have a uniform thickness of 0.023 ± .003 inch (0.584 ± .076 mm). Class A shall have a uniform thickness of 0.009 to + 0.002, -0.001 inch (.229 + 0.051, -0.025 mm). Each disk shall have a centered mandrel hole 0.076 ± 0.003 inch (1.93 ± .08 mm) in diameter.
