SPLINT SET, ARCH WIRE, DENTAL AND
BAND, LIGATURE, DENTAL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Interim Federal Specification GG-S-00627b (DSA-DM).
This commercial item description covers an arch wire splint set and replacement ligature bands suitable for the fixation of fractures of the jaw.
Salient characteristics:
The arch wire splint set shall be suitable for the fixation of fracture of the jaw. The set shall be of the Winter design and shall consist of 2 splints, 10 ligature wires with dental floss, and 24 rubber bands. The replacement ligature bands shall consist of 48 rubber bands.
The splint shall consist of a base arch wire to which attachment pins shall be soldered. Each pin shall have a body and a round head. There shall be not less than 5 pins for each 1-inch length of base wire. The splint shall be made of copper alloy composition 752, dead-soft annealed temper, and shall be plated with rhodium. The splint shall conform to Figure 1 in style, design and dimensions.
The ligature wire shall be 0.018 ± 0.001 inch in diameter and 8.5 ± 0.05 inches long. the wire shall be bent over itself in the center and shall have 9 ± 1/2 inch piece of dental floss inserted at the bend. The wire shall be gold or rhodium plated brass, or soft AISI 304 stainless steel with a tensile strength of 80,000 to 120,000 pounds per square inch (psi). The dental floss shall be composed of waxed nylon continuous filaments. The floss shall be at least 960 denier with a tensile strength of at least 13.0 pounds.
