COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
WHEEL, ABRASIVE, IMPREGNATED RUBBER, PUMICE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Interim Federal Specification GG-W-00253A (DSA-DM).
This commercial item description covers abrasive wheels suitable for use in dentistry for polishing metals, plastic, and porcelain.
The wheels shall be furnished in the following style numbers, as specified:

Salient characteristics:
The wheel shall be fabricated from a suitable rubber compound into which has been incorporated 70 ± 5 percent of grade 1-1/2 ground pumice, as ascertained from the manufacturer’s batch formula control records. The pumice shall be free from quartz, obsidian and iron, and shall be odorless and tasteless.
The wheel shall be of the design and dimensions shown in Figure 1 of the applicable styles.
The No.1 and No. 2 wheels shall have a knife edge. The No.3 wheel shall have a square or round edge.
The wheel shall possess such flexibility that it will conform to the applied surfaces when revolving under high or low speed, and shall be suitable for polishing dental restorations and prosthetics appliances without splitting or wearing unduly in normal use.
Not more than 3 months shall have elapsed from the date of manufacture of the wheels to date of delivery to the Government.
The wheel shall cause no pronounced scratches, when testes as specified in scratch test below. The wheel shall have a tumble finish and the mandrel holes shall be centered in the wheel.
Workmanship. The wheel shall be free from defects which detract from their appearance or impair their serviceability.
Unit.
Box (BX). For style 1 and style 2, one box containing 25 wheels of one style only, as specified, constitutes one unit.
For style 3, one box containing 100 wheels, as specified, constitutes one unit.
