COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
ULTRASONIC PROPHYLAXIS UNIT, DENTAL, PORTABLE
General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This commercial item description covers an ultrasonic prophylaxis unit suitable for use in oral prophylaxis.
Salient characteristics:
Material. The material used shall be of the highest quality throughout and shall be suitable in all respects for the intended purpose.
Ultrasonic prophylaxis unit. The ultrasonic prophylaxis unit shall be portable and shall consist of four major components: an electronic generator, a handpiece assembly, a foot switch, and three interchangeable inserts (30K-3, 30K-10 and 30KEWPP), see Note. The unit shall be suitable for use in oral prophylaxis.
Electronic generator. The generator and water system shall be housed in a portable table model cabinet having the following nominal dimensions: 4 inches high, 7-3/8 inches wide and 7- 5/8 inches deep, and shall have a nominal weight of 5.3 lbs. The front panel of the cabinet shall have a power selector dial, an on-indicator, a water flow adjustment knob, and the handpiece receptacle. The power selector dial shall be capable of variable power selection. The water flow adjustments dial shall control the volume and temperature of water flowing into the handpiece. The unit shall be properly fused, and the rear of the cabinet shall provide for power line connection and foot switch connection. The water connection shall be made on the underside of the unit. The unit shall have an internal water regulator to provide a constant flow of water, and shall have an electrical interlock to prevent water flow when handpiece is disconnected. The unit shall operate on 120 volt, 50/60 Hz, AC current input, and shall draw approximately 92 watts. The unit shall provide maximum power output to the handpiece at 30,000 ± 1500 hertz per second, at a nominal 0.8 amps and 30 watts.
