COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
BURNISHER, DENTAL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as a replacement for Federal Specification GG-B-001294 (DSA-DM) which is cancelled.
This Commercial Item Description covers burnishers suitable for use in burnishing plastic materials, waxes and dental restorative materials.
Salient Characteristics:
Classification.
Type I – Single-ended

Material. The burnishers shall be fabricated from Class 4, Type 440A corrosion-resistant steel in accordance with ASTM Designation F899. As an alternate, Type II handles shall be brass plated.
Hardness. The operative ends of the burnisher shall have Rockwell hardness of C52 to C56 when tested in accordance with ASTM E18 or E92 and ASTM E140.
Style, design and dimensions. The burnishers shall be designed for use in burnishing plastic materials, waxes and dental restorative materials within the mouth during dental restorative procedures.
The type I burnisher shall be single-ended, one or two piece construction, consisting of an operative end and a handle. The operative end shall be permanently secured to the handle.
