WAX, DENTAL (DISCLOSING)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
Salient characteristics:
This commercial item description covers dental disclosing wax used as an aid in obtaining accurate fit of full and partial dentures.
The disclosing wax shall be an ivory colored material used for determining the fit of full and partial dentures, checking and perfecting occlusion and locating and relieving sore spots. The wax shall be nominally 2 oz. contained in a plastic or glass jar with adequate closure to prevent accidental opening.
Material. The disclosing wax shall consist of petroleum derivatives, vegetable oils and fillers of the type and proportion necessary for production of a dental prosthetic disclosing wax. The wax shall be odorless, tasteless, and non-toxic.
Performance. The disclosing wax shall be tacky so as to adhere to dry surface. The wax shall be soft enough to be displaced easily at mouth temperature under the pressure of mastication. The wax shall be stable and shall maintain its form during removal from the mouth and during grinding to relieve excessive pressure areas under denture saddle and on occlusal surfaces.
Instructions. Adequate and accurate instructions for use shall accompany each unit package.
Delivery schedule. A period of not more than three months shall have elapsed from the date of manufacture of the wax to the date of delivery to the Government.
Identification marking. A waterproof permanent label shall be applied to each jar. The legend on the label shall include the manufacturer’s name, address and item identification. Each label shall be marked with the lot or control number and date of manufacture.
