COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PLUGGER, PLASTIC FILLING, DENTAL, (Glick No.1)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description in preference to Military Specification MIL-P-36959.
Salient characteristics:
This commercial item description covers a plugger of Glick No. I design for use in endodontic procedures.
General requirements. The plugger shall be in accordance with the applicable requirements as specified herein.
Material. The plugger shall be fabricated of Class 4, Type 440A martensitic corrosion-resisting steel, as specified in ASTM F899, for composition only.
Style, design and dimensions. The plugger shall be a one-piece, double-ended, plastic filling type plugger of the Glick No. I design. One operative end (plastic filling end) shall be suitable for placing temporary fillings in root canal therapy. The other operative end (plugging end) shall be suitable for endodontic plugging and shall be graduated with millimeter markings shall be legible, sharply defined lines of uniform width and depth. The handle shall be octagonal, and shall be serrated except for one face which shall be smooth for identification marking purposes. Serrations shall be fillet or notched type serrations. There shall be 40 ± 10 serrations per inch. The depth of serrations shall be 0.002 to 0.004 inch. Handle shall be straight. The style, design and dimensions of the plugger shall conform to Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing 24322.
Hardness. After proper stress relieving, the Rockwell hardness of the operative ends, shall be C50 to C56, when tested as specified herein.
Corrosion resistance. The complete plugger shall be properly passivated and shall meet the resistance to copper sulfate and boil test requirements of ASTM F1089 when tested as specified herein.
