COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PLATINUM FOIL (1 pennyweight)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description in preference to Federal Specification QQ-P-00428C (DSA-DM).
Salient characteristics:
This commercial item description covers one type of platinum foil suitable for dental use.
The foil shall be a minimum of 99.9 percent platinum, when tested for purity as specified below. The foil shall be suitable in all respects for dental inlay or porcelain jacket matrices.
The foil shall be furnished in 1-pennyweight (0.050 troy ounce), wrinke-free sheets, each 1-1/4 ± 1/8 inches wide and 3-5/8 ± 1/8 inches long. Average thickness of the foil shall be 0.0010 ± 0.0001 inch, when tested as specified below.
Individual sheets of foil shall weigh 0.050 troy ounce ± 0.001 troy ounce. The total weight of twenty (20) sheets of foil shall be at least 1.000 troy ounce, when weighed as specified below. The foil shall comply with the softness test specified below.
Workmanship. The platinum foil shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Each (EA). One sheet of platinum foil, as specified, constitutes one unit.
Quality Assurance Provisions.
Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contact or purchase order, the contractor may use his own or any facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements.
