LINER, FLASK, DENTAL CASTING MACHINE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This item description covers a cellulose type, water absorbing dental casting machine flask liner.
Salient characteristics.
The liner shall be a cellulose type, water absorbing flask liner suitable for use in dental casting machines in the fabrication of precious and nonprecious dental castings.
The liner shall adapt readily to the flask (ring). One layer of liner shall allow for uniform expansion of commercial investments. The liner shall be a substitute for asbestos.
Material. The liner shall be composed of cellulose made from natural plant fibers that are purified until white in color and maximum 4 percent organic binders. The liner shall contain no asbestos or ceramic fiber or any other inorganic fibers. The material shall be free of impurities that would affect the end result of the casting.
Physical properties. The liner shall have the following dimensions:
Length – 60 feet + 5 feet – 2 feet
Width – 1-1/8 inches ± 1/16 inch
Thickness .030 inch ± 0.003 inch
The liner shall be uniform thickness and furnished in one continuous length. The liner shall be easily cut with scissors. The liner shall remain soft or disintegrate during the heating of the casting process, so as to not interfere with the expansion of the investment. The maximum burnout temperature of the liner shall be 1200°F.
