COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
RETRACTOR, TONGUE AND CHEEK

The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This commercial item description covers a retractor suitable for the retraction of tongue and cheek during oral surgical procedures.
Salient characteristics:
General requirements. The retractor shall be in accordance with the requirements specified herein and in applicable portions of Federal Specification GG-I-526.
Style, design and dimensions. The retractor shall be of University of Minnesota type and be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 23321. The retractor shall be of one-piece construction.
Material. The retractor shall be fabricated entirely from class 3 austenitic stainless steel of type 301, 302, or 304 in accordance with ASTM F899. Composition shall be tested as specified herein.
Hardness. The retractor shall have a Rockwell hardness of C30 to C40 when tested as specified herein.
Resistance to corrosion. The retractor shall show no sign of corrosion when tested as specified herein.
Finish. The finish shall be mirror, satin, or matte. The matte finish shall exhibit a uniform non-directional surface with fine abrasives under pressure.
Identification marking. The retractor shall be legibly and permanently marked with the name or registered trademark of the contractor. The word “stainless” shall be marked on the instrument. If the retractor is of foreign manufacture, the instrument shall be marked with the country of origin.
