COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
STRIP, ABRASIVE, DENTAL,
(Aluminum Oxide)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
Salient characteristics:
This commercial item description covers a dental abrasive strip suitable for finishing and polishing composite restorations in the oral cavity under both wet and dry conditions.
The strips shall consist of an aluminum oxide abrasive bonded to a polyester film. The polyester film abrasive strips shall be flat. One side of the strip shall be uncoated (safe-sided). The other side shall have a fine (600 grit), aluminum oxide abrasive bonded full width for a distance of at least 3 inches from one end and a super fine (1200 grit), aluminum oxide bonded full width for a distance of at least 3 inches from one end, leaving a 1/2 ± 1/8 inch uncoated gap in the center section of the strip. The abrasives shall be bonded to the strip by a high quality, water-insoluble, polyester-type adhesive in such a manner as to uniformly and suitably cover the surface to produce a pliable, sharp-cutting abrasive strip. The strip shall consist of a polyester film backing 0.0030 plus 0.0003 minus 0.0005 inch thick, 5/32 ± 1/64 inch wide, and 7 ± 1/8 inches in overall length.
Workmanship. The abrasive shall be clean and free from all extraneous material. Strips shall be free from defects which detract from their appearance or may impair their serviceability.
Unit. Box (BX). One box containing one hundred and twenty strips, as specified, constitutes one unit.
