COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PRESSURE INDICATING COMPOUND and BRUSH, DENTAL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This Commercial Item Description covers a pressure indicating compound and a brush (replacement).
Type I – Pressure Indicating Compound
Type II – Brush (replacement)
Salient characteristics:
Type I pressure indicating compound shall be suitable for use in accurately locating areas of pressure on the internal surfaces of dentures, inlays and crowns. Type II, brush (replacement) shall be a disposable, dental, pressure indicating compound brush suitable for use with NSN 6520-00-890-2185, Pressure Indicating Compound, Dental.
Pressure Indicating Compound. The pressure indicating compound shall be furnished in a kit consisting of the following:
1/2 ounce, minimum, white silicone paste in a suitable collapsible metal tube or as an alternate, in a glass jar with a screw cap.
2 ounces, minimum, silicon emulsion in a plastic bottle with screw cap.
1 suitable plastic atomizer with screw cap for spraying the emulsion.
1 brush suitable for spreading the paste on denture surfaces.
1 complete, accurate manufacturer’s instructions.
The paste shall adhere to dry surfaces. The consistency shall be free-flowing and shall be such that the paste can be lightly brushed on the inner denture surfaces being tested. When sprayed with silicone emulsion (wetting agent), the treated area shall not adhere to the moist oral tissues.
