COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
WAX, DENTAL (Inlay)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Interim Federal Specification U-W-00141b and Federal Specification U-W-141a.
This commercial item description covers two types and colors of dental inlay casting wax, suitable for use in making patterns in the production of inlays and crowns.
Type I. Direct technique wax
Color A. Dark blue
Color B. Dark green
Type II. Indirect technique wax
Color A. Dark blue
Color B. Dark green
Color C. Ivory
Salient characteristics:
The inlay casting wax shall be of the type and color specified in the procurement document for the applicable National Stock Number and Item Identification. The inlay casting wax shall be Type I Direct technique wax or Type II Indirect technique wax in accordance with ANSI/ ADA Specification No.4 for Dental Inlay Casting Wax and the following additional requirements.
1. The color for type I, color A wax shall be dark blue and shall be a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) certified color. The color for type II, color C wax shall have no added coloring material, shall not discolor dies used in making acrylic restorations, and shall contain no dye to contaminate the finished restoration.
2. Inlay wax shall present a smooth glossy surface and be capable of finishing to a fine margin without chipping or flaking, after trimming at 230 ± 20 Centigrade.
3. Both type I and type II inlay wax shall be furnished in sticks of 3-4 inches in length. The cross section of the sticks shall be round or hexagonal and shall be 15/64 to 5/16 inch in diameter. The sticks in unit package shall weigh a total of one ounce, minimum.
