RULER, ENDODONTIC INSTRUMENT
(Finger ring, right handed)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a right handed finger ring endodontic instrument ruler used in measuring instruments from 1 to 35 mm in increments of 1/2 mm.
Salient characteristics:
The endodontic ruler shall be a right handed finger ring ruler used to measure endodontic instruments. The endodontic ruler shall be a two-piece construction, a flat scale and an open, adjustable ring configuration, to fit a left hand finger. The endodontic ruler shall have a range of 35 mm. The endodontioc ruler shall have 2 scales. One scale shall be legibly and permanently numbered every 5 mm, with 1 mm markings and shall be nominally 3/16 inch high. The scale shall read from right to left, with zero toward the finger tip and the highest number toward the knuckle. The other scale shall be marked at 1/2 mm increments with every second increment marking (1 mm) coinciding with the mm markings of the 1 mm scale and shall be nominally 1/16 inch high. The error on each scale shall be no more than 1/10 mm per 35 mm. The overall ruler shall be 38 ± 1 mm long, 12 ± 1/2 mm wide and 0.47 ± 0.015 mm thick. The finger ring shall be 8 ± 0.1 mm wide and 0.75 ± 0.03 mm thick. The ruler shall conform to the design shown in figure 1.
Material. The endodontic ruler shall be fabricated of corrosion resisting steel, and shall be of sufficient stiffness for normal use. The endodontic ruler shall be autoclavable and shall show no sign of corrosion when tested in accordance with the autoclavability test as specified herein.
The finger ring shall be adjustable to fit any adult finger size, (5/8” dia. To 1” dia.). The finger ring shall be securely welded to the underside of the flat scale (ruler) at the center of the lengthwise axis and positioned between the 15 mm and 25 mm markings as shown in the design in figure 1. The endodontic ruler shall have a brightly polished finish with no burrs or burns.
