COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
DISPENSER, DENTAL FLOSS
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Military Specification MIL-D-36242A.
This commercial item description covers a dental floss dispenser suitable for accommodating dental floss.
Salient characteristics:
The floss dispenser shall consist of plated, die cast, zinc alloy base, a corrosion-resisting steel cover plate, and a non-skid sponge rubber pad bonded to the base. The cut-off slots shall be sufficiently sharp to provide a clean cut of the floss. The dispenser shall accommodate two wound spools (cores) of dental floss, with a cylindrical core of 2-3/4 ± 1/16 inches in length and 5/16 ± 1/32 inch in diameter, and the maximum diameter of dental floss, including the core, shall be 1-1/8 inches.
Construction. The cover shall be a snap-on type and the rubber pad shall be centered on the bottom.
Material. Material shall be of the highest quality throughout, shall be suitable in all respects for the intended purpose.
Finish. All exterior surfaces of the base shall be chromium over nickel over copper plated. The cover plate shall have No. 3 satin commercial stainless steel finish. The rubber pad shall have a smooth, trimmed flat, non-skid surface.
Workmanship. Dispenser shall be free from burs, cracks and rough edges, which may detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Each (EA). One dispenser, as specified, constitutes one unit.
