COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
FLUORIDE APPLICATION TRAY, DENTAL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This Commercial Item Description covers dental fluoride application trays suitable for the simultaneous application of fluoride gel to the upper and lower dentition.
Salient characteristics:
The three sizes of the dental fluoride application trays shall be as specified below.
Small
Medium
Large
The trays shall be a disposable one piece application tray with anterior handles consisting of a maxillary and mandibular tray joined by common hinge.
The trays shall be suitable to contain the fluoride gel and for the simultaneous application of the fluoride gel to the upper and lower dentition. The buccal, lingual, and posterior walls shall form a closed tray to preclude dripping gel into the throat, insure coverage of dentition and accommodate the residual fluoride gel.
Material. The trays shall be formed of sheet stock 1/4 inch thick, 5 ± 1 pound/feet 3 density, soft closed-celled polyethylene foam.
The trays shall be anomatically contoured and constructed to provide total coverage of all dentition. To create a close apposition of the fluoride to the tooth surface, the inside of the tray shall be anatomical tooth configuration, or shall have a heat bonded polyester foam lining.
