COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
WHEEL, ABRASIVE (Silicon Carbide Non-Heating)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This Commercial Item Description an abrasive silicon carbide wheel suitable for the rapid, non-clogging, and heatless reduction of metallic and plastic materials in dental laboratory procedures.
Salient characteristics:
The abrasive wheel shall be made of 80 grit silicon carbide crystals, free of extraneous matter, and bonded in ceramic non-vitrifying binder.
The wheel shall be square-edged, measuring 5/8 ± 1/64 inch in diameter by 1/8 ± .005 inch in thickness with a bore of .074 ± .001 inch. The wheel shall have a brass pinion bushing and shall be concentric and true to 1/64 inch.
The wheel shall be compatible with screw-type dental mandrels and capable of operation at a maximum speed of 30,000 revolutions per minute. The wheel shall be non-clogging and shall not create heat during use.
Workmanship. The wheel shall be symmetrically made, with bore geometrically centered, and free from defects such as chips and cracks. The large flat faces of the wheel shall be smooth, face of porosity, or other defect which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Package (PG). One package containing 100 wheels, as specified, constitutes one unit.
