INTERIM COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CONTAINER AND PUMP, DENTAL (Mouthrinse)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Interim Commercial Item Description which was developed by the Defense Personnel Support Center, Directorate of Medical Material, DPSC-RST, 2800 South 20th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19101, based upon currently available technical information.
This interim commercial item description covers a container and pump suitable for use in dispensing 10 millimeters of sodium fluoride mouthrinse.
Class 1- Container (Jug)
Class 2- Pump
Salient characteristics:
The container shall be suitable for use with the pump to form a manually operated dispenser capable of dispensing 10 milliliters of (0.2%) sodium fluoride (NaF) solution upon each stroke.
Class 1, Container. The container shall be a one piece molded construction, including formed handle, of extra heavy gauge natural colored, food grade polyethylene. The handle shall be so spaced from the body of the container to provide ease of handling. The container shall be unbreakable, leakproof and inert to a 0.2% NaF solution. The container shall be 10 ± 1/4 inches in height. The capacity of the container shall be 1600-2200 milliliters and shall feature graduations at the 500, 1000, and 1500 milliliter level. The container shall have an inner diameter opening of 1-1/4 ± 1/16 inches. The outer diameter of the opening shall be threaded to accommodate a standard 38 mm cap.
A standard 38 mm safety (childproof) cap shall be provided with each container and shall fit and seal without leakage, for storage of the solution. The cap and its liner shall be inert to the 0.2% NaF solution.
