COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
BLADE and FRAME, DENTAL LABORATORY SAW
(Plastic and Gypsum Materials)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Federal Specification GG-B-00406B.
This commercial item description covers an adjustable saw frame and blade suitable for dental laboratory procedures.
Class 1 – Saw Frame
Class 2 – Saw Blade
Salient characteristics:
The saw frame shall be suitable for use with the saw blade to form an adjustable saw (frame plus blade) suitable for cutting plastics and hardened gypsum products in the dental laboratory.
Frame. The frame bow shall be fabricated of a suitable steel plated to render corrosion resistant. The bow support and tang shall be a zinc-base alloy die casting. The thumb screw shall be rolled stainless steel or cold rolled steel treated to be corrosion resistant. The handle shall be fabricated of smooth, seasoned, close-grained hardwood, and shall have a painted or lacquered finish. The saw frame shall be easily adjustable and shall consist of a bow, bow support with tang, and handle. The frame shall securely hold the blade and shall maintain rigidity during use. All parts of the frame shall be held together when the blade is not in place. The blade bearing surfaces of the holding devices on the rod and tang shall be serrated to provide gripping surfaces for the blade. The handle shall be securely attached to the tang by means of a heavy duty ferrule. The frame shall be of the design and dimensions shown in Figure 1. The bow and blade bearing surfaces of the holding devices shall have a polished finish. The bow support (and tang) the bow holding device shall have a smooth finish. Each frame shall be legibly and permanently marked with name or trademark of the manufacturer. Instruments of foreign (other than U.S.) manufacture shall also be marked with the name of the country of origin.
