INTERIM COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
INSERT, HANDPIECE, DENTAL ULTRASONIC
PROPHYLAXIS UNIT
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Interim Commercial Item Description which was developed by DLA, Defense Personnel Support Center, Directorate of Medical Materiel, DPSC-ATT, 2800 South 20th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19101, based upon currently available technical information.
This interim commercial item description covers a dental ultrasonic prophylaxis unit handpiece inserts suitable for replacement inserts, for prophylaxis unit models 660, 2001, and 2002, as specified below:
Style I – No. 3, Flat-Hoe Chisel Type
Style II – No. 1000, Curette-Type
Salient characteristics:
The ultrasonic prophylaxis unit handpiece inserts, style I and style II, shall be suitable for removing calculus and scale from tooth enamel.
Style I. The insert shall be used for removing supragingival calculus from labial and lingual surfaces of teeth and removing surface stain.
Style II. The insert shall be suitable for use on all supragingival and shallow subgingival tooth surfaces.
The inserts shall include an anti-rotation key, to prevent rotation of the tip. The operative tip shall be in line with the central axis of the handle. The flow through the groove in the tip, working in conjunction with the metal eyelet at the juncture of the tip and nozzle shall assure maximum cavitation of water at the tip with a minimum formation of droplets at the juncture of the tip and nozzle.
The complete insert shall be autoclavable as specified.
